Ministry predicts new surge in ODI

The scale of accumulative outbound direct investment (ODI) for 2011-15 will reach the level of the nation's foreign direct investment (FDI), a statement from the Ministry of Commerce said Wednesday.
China's ODI from 2011 to 2015 is expected to register double-digit annual growth to reach US$560 billion.
The government will accelerate promoting "overseas investment" during the 12th Five-Year Plan (2011-15) period, according to the statement.

US treasury secretary to visit China, Japan

The US Treasury Department announced on Wednesday that Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner will travel to China and Japan next week for meetings with top officials there to discuss a range of economic and other issues.

Geithner will meet senior government officials in both countries between January 10 and 12 "to discuss the state of the global economy, policies to strengthen global growth and other economic issues of mutual importance," the Treasury said in a statement.
